Detroit Urban Craft Fair

Hey! You need something to do. On August 4. At the Majestic Theatre in Detroit. Say anytime between 10a and 8pm. This is not ya mama's craft fair.

Many of you may have moseyed to the link at right that says "An Auburn girl doin' her thang"...it links to a business called Motokitty which is owned by an insanely crafty girl I went to high school with. She is going to be at this event and I'm intending on adding one of her funky bags to my collection.

So chug on down to Detroit next Saturday, go to the craft fair, then stop on down to the Detroit Science Center to see the cool human body exhibit or visit the zoo and be a tourist in your own state. :) If you want more info on the fair: www.detroiturbancraftfair.com

Chillin' at the cottage...

With Stacey and the kids here from NC we spent some time chillin at the cottage. I think Papa and the kids fished more than Jenny does when she's up with Papa (is that possible?) Christina caught one on this particular excursion...

We always get a few peeps around the lake that bring the big dogs on the fourth...


James is equally as picture problematic as his ChaCha. This is very typical James with his irresistable charm.



Need child entertainment? Put a very large floatie out on the lake and they'll be out there for hours...

My first solo wedding...

Well, after weeks of nightmares, cold sweats and sheer terror, my first solo wedding is over! Thank you to Jon and Brandy for letting me "practice" on them. Here are some of the highlights. I wanted to get a few out there and I can't swear that these are my favorites but a quick glance through the hundreds...some of these caught my eye. (special thanks to Ryan for the pep talk/pro tips) :)

Brandy is the exact OPPOSITE of a bridezilla. Brides like her make this job easy. She made just about everything at the wedding. I'm surprised she didn't hand bead the dress! She made the candles, the centerpieces, the cookies, the boquets, and I'm sure I'm missing about 50 other things but you get the picture...

Oop. Another cute boy...Griffin. Pure love. Pure Carter's competition. :) (and yes, he did have clothes on at one point...I caught him mid-clothing change into his PJ's)


Levi was a dancing MACHINE! He sang with the microphone and danced the night away. Oh to have the energy of a three-year-old.

Get your golf game on...

Jeff and I went and chilled at the Buick 0pen last week. I had never expected to be a person who goes to a golf match to watch, but I have to admit I had big fun! I'm hoping my golf game will improve by sheer osmosis of being around the pros. I feel MUCH better about my golf game after seeing this guy hit it right in the crowd on the infamous hole #17 (known for rowdy crowds and lots of fun). It's nice to know that sometimes even the pros hit a typical "kristy" shot. It was hard not to feel like you were in a scene from Happy Gilmore. :)



Hey! There was even a guy from Mt. Pleasant teeing off. The crowd was very enthusiastic for a fellow Michigander.



I wonder how the scoreboard writer gets his job? He has really nice handwriting though...I was surprised that the scoreboard was not electronic. We were there on opening day so the board was pretty empty. I think next year I'd like to go back and follow one of the big names around for a bit. That, and I decided to quit work and officially become a golfer...watch out LPGA...here I come.

Pole People

See? Cool stuff does come to Midland. :) My sister is in from NC and we took her kids to see 'Strange Fruit' from Australia at the Midland Center for the Arts and then we toured my nephews favorite place in the world..."the science museum". These people were a special even for the Matrix festival. They did their entire routine atop of 14-foot flexible poles. Crazy stuff I say, crazy. If you have kids this age, it's actually an interesting place to tour for an afternoon. Lots of hands-on stuff.



Christina...



Yes, James will be in the second grade in the fall and yet he was thrilled to see a giant periodic table of the elements. He was telling me all about his favorite element...just in case you don't remember first grade...the intricacies of chemistry usually are not in it. I'm pretty sure James will either cure cancer or take over the world one day. (by the way, his favorite element is plutnium because it's radioactive...and there is a very interesting answer that comes along with asking him what he would do with it if he could have some. He is ever the scientist...this could be a problem if he does decide to take over the world one day. heehee)



This cool guy was one of the guys from the MCFA who saw us unsuccessfully trying to build this arch and get it to stand so he came over and showed us how it's done. The kids really enjoyed him - and actually the adults did too. I've been to that museum lots of times but getting insight from a pro really made it interesting.
